Ford's bold move: Ditching the bi-turbo! Are you ready for a shake-up in the world of trucks and SUVs? Ford Australia is making a significant shift in its Ranger and Everest lineup for 2026, and it's all about what customers want. This decision involves removing the bi-turbo variant of the four-cylinder diesel engine. But why?
According to Ford Australia's Marketing Director, Ambrose Henderson, the answer lies in customer preference. "We are incredibly confident in the updates we are making in that we making in 2026 on both of those entities,” he stated. The brand is responding to a clear demand for more V6 engine options.
“What customers told us is they wanted greater availability of that V6 powertrain,” Henderson explained. This means Ford is focusing on giving buyers what they crave. Ford is positioning itself to offer the widest range of ute powertrain options in Australia. This includes the four-cylinder turbo diesel, the V6 turbo diesel, the V6 petrol performance engine, and the newly launched Ranger hybrid.
This year, the Ranger lineup is expanding with six variants of the 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6-powered Ford Ranger Super Duty. Prices for the Super Duty range from $82,990 (excluding on-road costs) for the base model single-cab chassis to $99,990 (excluding on-road costs) for the top-spec XLT dual-cab pick-up model.
And this is the part most people miss... This move suggests a shift in consumer priorities, with a potential emphasis on power and performance over fuel efficiency in some segments.
