But here's where it gets controversial... Nio's approach to tackling the "charging challenge" differs significantly from its competitors. While most automakers, including Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV, HKG: 9868), focused on expanding high-voltage ultra-fast charging networks, Nio has boldly embraced battery swapping as a game-changer.
During the 2026 Spring Festival holiday, Nio's battery swap stations delivered an astonishing 2,073,500 battery swap services between February 10 and 23. This resulted in a daily service volume increase of 29.4% compared to the previous year, with a peak of 177,627 swaps on February 22.
Nio's network of 3,750 battery swap stations and 8,676 charging facilities across China played a crucial role in meeting this unprecedented demand. The company's commitment to expanding its infrastructure footprint and user base has paid dividends, with cumulative deliveries surpassing 1.02 million vehicles by the end of January this year.

With over 130,000 vehicles from its mass-market sub-brand Onvo integrated into the network, Nio has created a robust and efficient ecosystem. The data speaks for itself: from February 15 to 23, Nio supplied a total of 25,283,118 kWh of electricity on expressways, accounting for a significant 15% of China's expressway vehicle electricity consumption during this period. Nio's 720 battery swap stations located in expressway service areas saw an impressive average of one vehicle completing a swap every 30 seconds.
Nio's success story doesn't end there. Just days before the Spring Festival, on February 6, the company achieved the remarkable milestone of 100 million cumulative battery swap services. This rapid expansion and the resulting surge in demand highlight the effectiveness of Nio's battery swap strategy.
In contrast, Xpeng, another prominent NEV maker, also experienced a surge in charging demand during this period. From February 9 to 23, Xpeng provided charging services to over 700,000 users, consuming more than 52 million kWh of electricity. However, Xpeng's reliance on high-voltage charging networks may not be as efficient or scalable as Nio's battery swap model, especially during peak travel periods.
Over the past 11 years, Nio has invested over RMB 18 billion ($2.6 billion) in charging and battery swap infrastructure, a testament to its long-term vision and commitment to innovation.
