Now, in a recent chat with Empire magazine, Joe Russo offered a bit more insight, though it might not be the clarity everyone was hoping for.
"Each one of these trailers is narrative information, and it’s all part of [a] larger story," Russo explained to the publication. "So I would argue that Doomsday has already started for you."
If we're interpreting this correctly, the Russos are reinforcing their earlier suggestion that these glimpses are intended to be pieces of information that the audience should absorb before seeing the movie. This implies we should already be aware that Steve Rogers is alive and has become a father, that Thor is fighting for his daughter, that Professor X and Magneto are still old acquaintances, that Cyclops is quite angry, and that Ben Grimm has just had a memorable encounter with the Black Panther in Wakanda. But here's the perplexing part: are these specific scenes or pieces of information actually not going to be in the final film?
"Look, the movie is very complex," Russo continued. "We thought one of the best ways to celebrate what the movie is was to give characters their own space and highlight some moments."
Honestly, Joe, that explanation doesn't exactly clear things up, does it?
It feels like Marvel fans will be dissecting these 'teasers' for ages, even after a full trailer eventually drops later this year.
