Tom Dean's Swim School Expands: A Success Story in Water Safety and Community Building
The York Swim School, founded by Olympian Tom Dean and Strictly Come Dancing star, has seen remarkable growth since its inception earlier this year. With over 300 students, the school has more than doubled in size, offering a unique approach to swimming education.
The Mount School in Dalton Terrace is one of seven locations across the country hosting the swim school. It focuses on water safety, ensuring swimmers feel confident in both pools and open water. The school's teaching philosophy emphasizes body awareness, breathing, and self-rescue techniques.
Emma Heatley, Hub Manager for York and Hull, highlights the school's impact: "We're more than just a swim school; we educate on water safety. In eight months, we've grown from 135 to 300 swimmers."
The school caters to all ages, from children to adults, including those training for triathlons. One dedicated father learned to swim to bond with his son. Tom Dean expressed pride in the school's success, attributing it to Emma and the team's efforts.
The school's partnership with the Prince and Princess of Wales' Royal Foundation aims to provide 10-12 swimming sessions to 1,000 young people nationwide, focusing on water safety and confidence.
The Tom Dean Swim School's national reach includes locations in Aston, Birmingham, Birtley, Tyne and Wear, Exmouth, Devon, Maidenhead, Sunderland, Warrington, Windsor, and Hull. The school's popularity and impact on water safety and community building are evident in its growing numbers and positive feedback.
