Ukraine's Two Largest Cities Under Russian Attack: 13 Injured (2026)

Ukraine's largest cities under Russian attack, officials report 13 injured

Amid Russia's relentless assault on Ukraine, the country's two largest cities, Kyiv and Kharkiv, have once again borne the brunt of Russian aggression. Early on Saturday, Russian forces launched a series of attacks, resulting in injuries to 13 people, including two serious cases in Kyiv and 11 in Kharkiv. The capital city's Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that the two injured in Kyiv are in critical condition and receiving medical attention.

The attacks targeted two districts on either side of the Dnipro River, a major geographical feature in Kyiv. Ukraine's air force confirmed the use of both drones and missiles in the assault, while Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv's military administration, reported drone strikes in at least three districts, causing fires in two locations. These strikes have disrupted power and heating services for hundreds of residential buildings, with temperatures dropping to -13 Celsius (9 Fahrenheit) overnight.

In Kharkiv, a city frequently targeted by Russia, Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported 11 injuries from Russian drone attacks on several districts. The drones struck a dormitory for displaced people, a hospital, and a maternity hospital, causing significant damage and disruption. These attacks occurred just days after high-level negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States took place in the United Arab Emirates, aiming to find a resolution to the ongoing war.

The recent wave of Russian attacks has highlighted the ongoing vulnerability of Ukraine's critical infrastructure and civilian populations. As emergency workers strive to restore services, the country remains under constant threat, with the potential for further casualties and widespread disruption.
