Gracia: 'We couldn't find a way to play our football'

Gracia admitted that the team's performance wasn't up to par, highlighting their inability to win duels and cope with the opponent's pressure. He emphasized that they had worked on these aspects beforehand, but execution fell short.
'It wasn't our best game,' he said. 'Millwall controlled the first half, and even in those circumstances, we had chances to improve our finishing. We conceded the first goal due to a mistake, which made it difficult for us to regain control.'
Gracia acknowledged the opponent's strength in aerial duels and their ability to win second balls. He explained that they had planned to use long balls to surprise them, but their strategy didn't yield results.
'We tried to find better connections in our half, as they press high and well on the opposite side,' he added. 'We aimed to combine effectively and overcome their pressure, but it wasn't possible.'
The team's struggle was evident in the first goal, where Marc Bola won the initial header, but Egil Selvik and his defense failed to follow up decisively. This failure to win second balls proved costly.
Gracia reflected on the team's defense, particularly in dealing with balls into the box. He acknowledged the challenge of facing tall defenders but emphasized the importance of being ready to defend second actions better.
'I don't want to single out any player or action, as my players deserve better,' he said. 'However, there were many similar situations during the game when defending long throws and corner kicks. We need to be more focused and organized in these moments.'
The Hornets' inability to find their usual style of play left them struggling to create chances and ultimately lose the match.
